At least once a week, R & I go on a date. Yes it’s true we have been together for about 3 years now, but we have a night each week where I dress up and go to try a new restaurant. After doing some research I found a nice Cuban restaurant in Palo Alto. As they weren’t taking any more reservations for the night, we decided to go and try our luck getting a table. Unfortunately it was quite packed, with a wait of 45 minutes and not even a place at the bar to wait. So we decided to try one of the other nearby restaurants.
As we were passing by Pasitis Bistro we were drawn into this lovely place by the appetizing smell. As soon as we saw the menu our decision was made. After a short wait of 15 minutes we were seated at a table by the window.
Every item on the menu looked mouthwatering. Everything sounded so good. After a lot of thinking we finally made a decision.
We started our dinner with Escargots (snails) that are something I absolutely love and haven’t had in a while now. They were big and juicy but I honestly would have loved them to be a little bit more flavorful. A small squeeze of lemon and little more garlic would have made the dish perfect.
The Mussels in Gorgonzola sauce were cooked to perfection. The sauce was creamy enough without being overwhelming.
Alongside the meal we had a delicious french bordeaux that paired perfectly with our food.
As for the entrée we decided to share one in order to have enough space for the desert. As recommended by our waiter, we ordered the rabbit with orzo. The meat was so soft it instantly melted in our mouth. It came in a delicious gravy that was absolutely exquisite. As for the orzo, I wasn’t very fond of it. I would have preferred some grilled vegetables instead.
And then came the desert. A flawless tarte tatin perfectly garnished and well presented. The apples and the crust were cooked just right. The ice cream melting on top balanced the warmth of the tarte and gave it a delicious creamy texture. We couldn’t stop even though we were barely breathing by that point. One of the best deserts I’ve ever had.
Pastis bistro is definitely a restaurant to try. Take your loved one on a special date and indulge in some good french cuisine and don’t forget to try one of their wines. Trust me they’ll love it!
