For a couple of months now, I’ve be a volunteer for Google’s Local Guides program as a moderator in the San Francisco community. This Saturday, as part of an unofficial global photowalk, R & I headed down to Strawberry Hill in the Golden Gate park to represent our community.
After a few people bailed out at the last minute, it ended up being just the two of us. So we decided to turn the photowalk into a romantic boat ride (if life gives you lemons… well you know the rest!). We rented a row boat, got some coffee and we were ready to go.
We spotted a lot of pigeons, ducks, seagulls, squirrels and other animals. It was beautiful discovering the area on a row boat, surrounded by beautiful nature. We almost felt like we left the city… It was surreal!
I even tried to row for a while, but it was easier said then done… I just gave up after a few minutes and handed the oars back to R for the heavy lifting. We would stop randomly, every once in a while, for a few minutes to enjoy the amazing views while sipping on our coffee.
The lake is a big circle surrounding a hill (the strawberry hill). So after an hour or so, we got back to where we started. We had seen it all, so we docked the boat and headed to little Italy for a pick me up with tea & macaroons.
We went to our favorite Italian pastry shop, Mara’s pastries, to pick our treats. Everything looked and smelled delicious!
There was so many different macaroons to choose from, so we got one of each. My motto is: when in doubt get them all! They were sooo good! My favorites were the raspberry, the lemon and the chocolate… Oh God, I’m drooling on my keyboard again…
We sipped some tea as we read our books. I’m currently reading “The Martian” by Andy Weir, and so far it’s great! (I wanted to read it before the movie comes out in October)
After a couple of hours, our stomachs were rumbling, demanding some food. We ended up having a mediocre dinner at the Stinking Rose, the garlic restaurant… Meh!
Nonetheless, it was such an amazing and fun filled day. It is always nice to discover hidden gems wherever you are.
I also made a quick 1 minutes video of our boat ride, you can check it out HERE.
