Seafood Extravaganza

Saturday nights are made for intimate dinner dates & chit chats over delicious food and good wine. That’s exactly how R & I spent this Saturday.

After an hour long wait, we finally got a table right next to the big window over looking the street at Anchor Oyster Bar. We’ve heard so many good things about this restaurant, we were more than ready to taste it for ourselves.

We started our meal with a half order of the Anchor Special, that’s a combo of a delicious variety of fresh oysters on the half shelf, 2 cocktail shrimps and mouthwatering steamed mussels. All the varieties of oyster were so tasty, we couldn’t even decide our favorite. As for the mussels, they were absolutely mind blowing. The special sauce was heavenly. It was the perfect dipping companion for their freshly baked bread!

We paired our meal with a carafe of the delicious house white wine. In my opinion nothing beats white or rose wine when pairing with seafood.

As for the main dish, it was a no brainer to get the cioppino. A cioppino is a seafood stew in a tomato and herbs sauce that was created in San Francisco by Italian fishermen. After seeing the humongous portions, we decided to go for the “smaller” cioppino rather than the large. Even the smaller portion was enough to feed the two of us and have left over for the next day (we transformed the left over into a delish seafood pasta).

The cioppino was the best seafood dish I’ve ever tasted. Filled with a generous amount of different types of seafood (fish, 2 types of mussels, clams, shrimps & dungeoness crab) it was an absolute “food-gasm”! The red sauce was impeccably seasoned to complement the seafood and so tasty you could drink it with a straw!

This was by far one of the best meals I’ve ever had! From the food to the service to the company of course, everything was perfection.

As we sipped the last couple drops of wine in our glasses, we were already making plans to visit this place once in a month (or a month and a half). Yup, it’s that good!

Before heading home, we strolled the busy Castro st. and stopped for some delicious fro-yo. A meal, no matter how amazing it is, isn’t complete without ice cream… Am I right?

If you’re ever in San Francisco, make sure to have a meal or two at Anchr Osyter Bar. It’s a must!
