The Red Mascara – Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening

I’ve seen blue, green and purple mascaras before, but a red mascara? That was something new for me.

I blame this purchase on Lily Pebbles, who recommended the Clinique Chubby Fattening mascara in the shade black honey, to people with brown and hazel colored eyes. I was so intrigued by the whole red mascara, that I went ahead a got one. The price tag wasn’t insane, $17, so I though what the heck?!?

The mascara has a rubber wand, which I personally prefer over fiber wands. Its bristles are short, but dense. The actual product on the wand looks has a beautiful burgundy color. Deep and rich. Even if you swatch it on a paper, you get a gorgeous complex color. Almost like a hybrid of red, brown and purple mixed together.

It got me excited!

So I coated my lashes with the first coat, and somehow that beautiful ox-blood-brownish-purplish color, turned almost black on my lashes. Second coat and still the same result. I got close to my mirror to try to find some red in it, but unfortunately I couldn’t.

The result was more black than brown in color, which shocked me! Where did all that beautiful red go? I was promised reddish lashes!

Even though on my lashes the mascara looked blackish, on the lash line you could see some red residue. I personally felt like I had red eyes wearing this mascara. It didn’t feel it made my hazel eyes pop, but I felt it made my lids look redder than usual.

PS: For some reason on camera the red is more visible than real life. My hubby also didn’t see any hint of red in real life.

The mascara itself isn’t my favorite either. It’s an average mascara by all means. It curled my lashes, but still my Benefit Roller Lash kicks every other mascara’s ass in my humble opinion. I didn’t get the length desired from this Clinique Chubby Fattening mascara. As the name would suggest, I was expecting some serious volume in my lashes, but the result was only average looking lashes for me.

Overall I was disappointed with the Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening mascara in black honey. I wanted to give my lashes some red tint (nothing crazy though, just a tint) as you’d expect from it, but it didn’t deliver in reality.

What’s the craziest mascara color you’ve tried?

I guess so too! but I was really looking forward for a little hint of red on my lashes.
