I get asked quite frequently “what’s the one makeup item you can’t live without?” My answer has always been consistent: Mascara!
I remember the first time I went to a beauty counter to pick up my very own make up item, of course it was mascara. Even though I’m not afraid of a bare face, I feel kinda naked without some mascara on. In my opinion, applying even a little mascara will immediately make you look well put together.
That being said, everyone has different needs and demands when it comes to mascaras. Personally, I want my mascara to define my lashes, curl them and lengthen them. I have to admit that when it comes to eyelashes, I have been blessed with relatively thick and long ones. Don’t worry God made it up for it by giving me two unrelated & thin eyebrows. Keep in mind that because everyone’s lashes are different, mascaras’ preferences and performance changes from one person to another.
Along my makeup journey, I have put to the test quite a number of mascaras. A few years back, I would swear by the Dior Diorshow Iconic mascara, but ever since I tried Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash, I was blown away (as you might have read here about 10,000 times).
Because I always like trying new products, and try to keep an open mind about new items, I put to the test 12 different high end mascaras. I’ve compared them side by side in the pictures below, so you can have a clear idea of how each one performs.
One of the mascaras that I liked best from the above is the new Marc Jacobs O!mega Lash Volumising mascara. Everyone and their mom has been raving about it. First of all, the packaging is absolutely stunning. I love the chunky black tube, it looks like a million bucks! It gave my lashes length and volume without being too clumpy, which is nice. I only wish it curled them a little more.
I also liked the Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara, it defined my lashes well and curled them, but the Chanel Le Volume gave them more length.
I have been using Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant mascara for a while now. I usually wear it on a night out, as it makes my lashes extremely black and adds a decent amount of volume without clumping.
The mascara that I felt most disappointed with is the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes. I’m not a fan of the packaging at all and it just didn’t seem to do much for my lashes. Also, the new Smashbox X-Rated was relatively disappointing.
So what’s my favorite between them all? It is still the Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash mascara. I just love how lengthening and curling it is! I love how well defined my lashes look when I use it. It also lasts all day long! It won’t start to crumble mid day and your curl will hold until you take it off late at night. While it’s by far the one I reached for the most, the one that came in second would have to be the Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant.
