The best stories are ones that aren’t planned. R & I, luckily, have quite a few of those!
Last Friday, as we were strolling the streets of San Francisco we stumbled upon something new; Bluxome Street – an urban winery. What’s an urban winery you ask? Well, it’s like any other winery, but instead of being out in the wine country, it’s in the middle of one of busiest metropolitan cities of the world. Apparently, the concept isn’t completely new. Bluxome Street winery has been open since 2011, but it was definitely new to us…
As we entered the gorgeously designed space, we were immediately intrigued by the fact that just like other wineries, the wine is made, stored & aged right in the urban location. As we are both wine lovers, we just had to sample what Bluxome Street winery had to offer. The tasting room is an Instagram/Pinterest ideal setting. Big wine barrels made into bar tables, a beautiful inside outside style picnic benches and the most gorgeous lights made from vintage glass wine containers. At the end of the room a giant glass wall separates the tasting room and the wine aging area. Absolutely stunning… It really embodies like an urban winery!
The decor was absolutely amazing but what about the wine? R & I shared the portfolio flight to have a taste of an array of their wines. As we were chatting away with the friendliest and most welcoming staff, we got to know more about each wine, the story of the winery and it’s founder.
With each sip, we were surprised by the quality and flavors of the wine. To be completely frank, we weren’t expecting much from an “urban winery” as we are spoiled by the Napa wine country which is so close to us… but we were wrong. So wrong in fact, that some of the wines we tasted from Bluxome Street Winery were among the best we’ve had. The sauvignon blanc, my personal favorite, was so refreshing yet complex, it rivaled the top tier wineries. The 2013 Sonoma Coast pinot noir was outstanding and the rose would make a great drink for a hot summer day!
It was completely random, but we were so happy we found this little gem. The wine was delicious and the ambiance was even better. Now that we know of Bluxome Street winery, we’re planning on becoming regulars!
We sipped our last glass and head to the pier where we had a delicious seafood dinner with an exquisite view of the bay.
