When the heat in the city soars like it did this weekend, R & I sometimes drive up to a charming little town called Sausalito. Located just north of San Francisco, Sausalito is the perfect mini-getaway. With the deepest blue water on one side and green hills with villas splattered everywhere on another, you’ll feel like you travelled miles and miles away to a romantic Italian village.
Before heading to dinner, we couldn’t resist cooling off from the city’s heat near the blue water. Watching the sail boats floating in the distance, we picked our favorites and dreamt that one day we would be sailing them!
Sausalito doesn’t only have breathtaking views and charming little stores, the seafood there is also quite the treat. Although we have our usual spot, this time we thankfully decided to try something new…
“Fish.” is a communal style restaurant with spectacular views of the marina and exquisite seafood. You order inside, get a number and hunt for a spot on the picnic tables on the deck. Don’t be shy to ask strangers for a spot on their table, here everyone shares the space. It truly feels like a giant picnic!
DANGER! The photos below may cause some serious drooling… You were warned! When we saw the menu, the oyster lover in us jumped with joy. You can easily say it’s an oyster lover’s heaven! We started the meal with six cold, freshly shucked oysters and three other barbecued to perfection…
Wirh a side of the tastiest Mexican corn you’ll ever taste. Charred on an open fire and drizzled with a tangy and spicy white sauce then topped with cheese…
As for our main dishes, we shared the oysters & chips and the The Fish. Hangtown Fry. I haven’t tried fried oysters in the south, but I’m pretty sure Fish.’s fried oysters are some of the best you’ll ever have. Sizzling hot, crispy form the outside and gooey from the inside, they’re sinfully good.
Before heading back to the city, we made a little stop to pick a fresh bouquet of beautiful flowers and brighten up our apartment…. After all it’s peonies’ season and thou should take advantage!
How did you spend your weekend? Let me know what you’ve been up to!
