Don’t Be A Follower – The Slip Dress Edition

We’ve all heard it before, trends come and go but style is forever. That doesn’t mean that in order to be stylish you can’t follow trends. The latest craze in the fashion world is the slip dress. To be more exact, it’s the slip dress layered on top of a tee-shirt.

Even though it’s a very effortlessly chic way to wear this trend, it’s becoming somewhat of a “deja vu”. Slip dresses can feel a little tricky to pull off during the day, but with the right pieces it can be done. Yes, a white tee-shirt is one way to do it, but it’s not the only way!

The easiest way to dress down any outfit is by layering it with denim! A denim jacket can be your key to a laid back, yet a la mode look. No matter how dressy an outfit is, adding denim to it instantly makes it day appropriate.

Same goes for the slip dress, layering it with a chambray jacket is a great way to make it more casual.

Yet another way to do it is by wearing an oversized flannel on top…

No matter how you style it, make it yours! Fashion is personal and is a reflection of you. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t follow trends, because let’s be honest we all do… What I’m trying to say is take the trends you like and make them yours.

Love the idea of contrasting the elegance of a slip dress with a denim piece, and you said, it’s both a la mode and casual! I love to do a slip dress with a bandana around the neck, also a way to get a chic contrast. But the options are endless! And loved your points on style and being individual, it’s so easy to just follow what all bloggers are wearing, but much more fun to intrepretate a piece by yourself! Have a lovely week gorgeous! Xx

I have to admit, this is one of those trends I wasn’t so hot on at first. Part of that could certainly be because they were showing them all alone.
But I love the denim “duster” over it! Good way to spin the trend!!

Oooo, this is a really good tip, Tamara! Dressing it with a denim shirt is a great idea and gives it a slight edgy look. And the mixture of edgy and feminine is really pretty!

I love your take on this! I remember this trend back in the 90’s (showing my age) and they wore it with t shirts underneath just how they are now! I love the belt and denim with this dress because it’s something new and fresh!

Great look Tamara! And you’re right – the t-shirt over a slip dress is great, but I love how you changed things up a bit. Aren’t western belts the best?! I wear mine all the time (maybe TOO much! ahaha)
