Yes, florals are “the” print of spring, but this year Gingham is taking over! Although it’s kind of an unusual print for this time of the year, that’s not stopping it from being the trendiest pattern. From high-end to high-street, the fashion scene is loving this print.
Personally, I have a love-hate relationship with this print. Sometimes it looks great, but other times it reminds me of my grandma’s cooking outfit… In my humble opinion, smaller patterns are more esthetically pleasing and flattering. The bigger the pattern, the more kitchen-y it looks… Am I the only one that thinks that? Let me know what you think.
When it comes to this style, it’s better styled with solid monochrome pieces. In most cases, additional patterns will clash with it. That doesn’t mean though that you can’t achieve a great multi-patterned look with gingham. You just have to be careful how you do it. For example, stripes can work beautifully…
As you know by now, I always prefer minimalistic styles. I kept things simple and styled my gingham off the shoulder top with a black jumpsuit. It gave the gingham a touch of elegance, and the pattern made the jumpsuit more casual. It’s a give & take relationship. The red clutch added a much-needed pop of color and tied the whole outfit together.
Gingham may not be a pattern for everyone and that’s understandable. But sometimes it’s nice to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself a little and style something you’re not too keen about. Don’t you think so?
