Gingham, The Print Of The Season

Yes, florals are “the” print of spring, but this year Gingham is taking over! Although it’s kind of an unusual print for this time of the year, that’s not stopping it from being the trendiest pattern. From high-end to high-street, the fashion scene is loving this print.

Personally, I have a love-hate relationship with this print. Sometimes it looks great, but other times it reminds me of my grandma’s cooking outfit… In my humble opinion, smaller patterns are more esthetically pleasing and flattering. The bigger the pattern, the more kitchen-y it looks… Am I the only one that thinks that? Let me know what you think.

When it comes to this style, it’s better styled with solid monochrome pieces. In most cases, additional patterns will clash with it. That doesn’t mean though that you can’t achieve a great multi-patterned look with gingham. You just have to be careful how you do it. For example, stripes can work beautifully…

As you know by now, I always prefer minimalistic styles. I kept things simple and styled my gingham off the shoulder top with a black jumpsuit. It gave the gingham a touch of elegance, and the pattern made the jumpsuit more casual. It’s a give & take relationship. The red clutch added a much-needed pop of color and tied the whole outfit together.

Gingham may not be a pattern for everyone and that’s understandable. But sometimes it’s nice to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself a little and style something you’re not too keen about. Don’t you think so?

XoXo,

Tamara

Haha! It’s so funny that you mentioned that the larger a print looks, the more kitchen-y it looks, I agree! I just recently purchased a dress, which I kind of now regret and it’s because of this very reason. This top that you’re wearing today, however, is anything but! I absolutely love everything about it, from the classic gingham pattern and color duo to the OTS and and voluminous sleeves, you’ve styled it perfectly too! Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having the best start to your Monday so far!

Hahah yes, I have a love-hate relation to gingham too. Can’t make up my mind. I’ve seen lovely outfits with the print, but some have just felt like kitchen (I guess?). Love this one though, makes a great contrast to the overall! Xx

You’re definitely bringing the heat to the kitchen in this outfit!!! You styled it perfectly and not at all “kitchen-y”. The red clutch goes perfectly with your outfit.

Lol I agree that the print can go wrong sometimes. I haven’t wear any print like that in awhile, but I love how you style it. The look is different, but it really works. Cool post!

I just wrote about this myself! I love the gingham print more in bottoms, but the off the shoulder look is good too, I think it breaks it up a bit. I can see what you mean about how it can feel a bit grandma or picnic blanketish! All about how you style it.

The print is nice but I love th jumpsuit! It is amazing!

  19. March 7, 2017 / 2:24 pm

I have to admit gingham isn’t my go to pattern as like you said it can be a bit frumpy. I’m big busted and I think that just accentuates the issue! I do love how you’ve styled it with the black jumpsuit though, it doesn’t look too much being off the sleeve either. Hopefully,I’ll be able to source some gingham that is flattering to me so I can rock the print of the season too
