We all feel sometimes like we’re in a fashion rut. Usually mid season, just about this time usually, I get the feeling of being stuck when it comes to my style. I start lacking inspiration and losing interest in what’s out. Almost all stores have started launching their pre-fall/fall collections which seem a little confusing and too soon for me. It’s still boiling hot outside and those over the knee suede boots are not inspiring at all. The summer collections are all a deja vu by now, so what to do?
To help refresh my style and remotivate myself I shop my closet. Yes, it sounds kind of silly, but shopping my own closet helps me to truly feel challenged and re-energized when it comes to styling. First of all, I know that I like pretty much everything in there… which makes things easy.
The challenging part is not to re-wear the same outfits again, but to use what I already own and style them in a totally different way. Thus creating new outfits that I have never worn before.
I wore this crop top only once, on a beachy vacation. Because it’s extremely cropped I haven’t worn it since. As for the skirt, I always considered it a “winter” although the material isn’t that thick. I decided to pair the two together, for a whole new look… and I really loved it! The high waisted skirt is a perfect pairing for this crop top. Although it’s still showing a little skin, it’s hiding my belly and only showing an acceptable amount of skin.
As for these sandals, I’ve had these for a couple of years now and I’m still loving them. They’re a timeless style that’s always gonna be on trend and the black matches perfectly with the look. To make things a little less black & white, I picked this straw tassel bag that I got from Japan, infusing some color to this outfit. To finish everything off, I opted for gold jewelry and a bold red lipstick. None of the items I wore were new and yet it felt like I’m rocking a whole new outfit.

It’s easy nowadays to get sucked in with mindless consumption especially when it comes to fashion. Fast fashion has not only become a problem for our bank accounts but also the environment. So next time you feel like you in a fashion rut or have nothing to wear, take a moment to look into your wardrobe and make it a goal to create a whole new look by styling items you already own!
XoXo,
Tamara
In love with this outfit! So chic!

I totally agree, Tamara!! I think the key is trying your items differently. We tend to pair them the same way all the time. Even the fact of winter vs summer!! Just because an item is darker color or lighter doesn’t mean it can’t go from season to season!!

Girl, I do the exact same thing. Shopping our closets is something that we underestimate, but it’s surprising to see how many things I find and how many new combinations we can put together with a little creativity.

Great outfit! I hate being in a fashion rut! I feel like I’m in one now, since I’m now buying fall clothes but it’s still so hot out.

Effortlessly Sophisticated
I can certainly relate to feeling like this from time to time and I couldn’t agree more shopping our closets as the solution. It really does challenge us to think outside of the box and get creative by putting together outfits that are new and refreshing with the same clothes we’ve had for a while. I had no choice but to do this when I was pregnant because I really didn’t want to purchase a ton of maternity clothing, so I had to find ways of making things work. As for the kne you’ve created, I absolutely adore how chic, sexy, and sophisticated it is. Like you’ve said, you’re showing just the right amount of skin to make the look tasteful. Thanks for sharing , beauty, and I hope you have a great week ahead!

I get this too and I found out about it in June. What I did is that I went shopping and took the courage to dress differently. It helped so much!

I think we all come to the unavoidable point of: “I’ve got nothing to wear”. But at the same time, I strongly believe that being a stylish woman means to integrate same pieces in various outfits and create new stories every time.
You look stunning in this outfit!

I also saw fall items in the stores and I was like…’already?’ lol too soon indeed!
I’ve been shopping my closet since I decided to start spending less. No regrets. Finding different ways to style the same things is my favorite hobby. I am stylike a white tee and denim shorts in 4 ways on my recent lookbok, maybe you’d get some inspo!
Love your look and make up 😀

I live by these rules on my day to day styling habits. Since I blog, I find myself pushing the “add to cart” button far too often, so I remind myself that there are lots of gems hidden in my wardrobe simply waiting to be worn 😉
