This post goes out to all my fellow petites out there. As a 5’2″ woman, sometimes I find it hard to style clothes. It’s particularly tricky for me as a fashion blogger to stay on top of every trend and make it work for my figure. Luckily, along the way, I have collected some tricks that help me with my tiny figure.
Over the Knee Boots are your best friends.
This style of boots is definitely one of the most flattering for shorter gals. Unlike ankle boots, OTK boots really elongate your legs give you the “legs for days” illusion. Even if you’re not vertically challenged, but have shorter legs proportionally to the rest of your body, this shoe style is also great for you.
When it comes to skirts and dresses, mini skirts and short dresses are the most flattering on petites. Just like OTK boots, they lengthen the legs and make you look taller. Maxi styles can sometimes be overwhelming on petites. Midi styles are also tricky for us short girls, but a mini skirt is a guaranteed success. By mini, I don’t mean something extremely revealing, but anything above the knee works well. Styling OTK boots with a mini skirt or a short sweater dress is the ultimate petite girl friendly look. The two styles complement each other so well, giving you the illusion of an extra few inches.
The reason why crop tops are so flattering, especially for petite girls, is because they look shrunk. They look like they are too small thus making you look bigger. If you have a smaller torso, a crop top will balance out your proportions. If you don’t want to show your midline while wearing a crop top, style it with high waist bottoms or layer it with a blouse underneath it. You will still get the same effect without compromising or getting out of your comfort zone.
High Waisted Bottoms
High waisted bottoms, especially jeans have been all the rage for the last few years. Just like low waist jeans that were in a few years back, they won’t be here forever. So take advantage of this trend while you can. A high waist is going to lengthen your lower body. It’s an optical illusion that’s going to elongate your legs, and thus make you look taller. Contrary to cropped tops, high waisted jeans are great for those with a long torso.
Ditch Flats For A Little Heel
In winter especially, wearing a little heel is great, whether you’re tall or short. The heel will actually protect you from the cold and wet ground. And if you’re petite, a little heel will give you a small boost. I’m not talking about a crazy high heel, just an inch is enough. Wearing heels will also help with your posture and your stride as well. So it’s a win-win!
