Not all trends are created equal. Some are going to be up to your taste others not at all. But there’s always that one trend that sits, right in the middle. You kind of like it but you kind of don’t. That one trend that intrigue you but it isn’t quite your style. This season, for me, and a lot of other people, it’s the biker shorts (or cycling shorts) trend.
Quite a Marmite style, these shorts have become one of the hottest fashion styles for Fall. Iconically worn in the 90’s by Princess Diana, as a workout outfit, models and celebrities alike brought this style back in style. It wasn’t long until the mainstream caught up and became obsessed with these shorts.
Unfortunately, biker shorts are mostly styled in an athletic way, with hoodies and crop tops which made a lot of people, including me, not fans of them. But I was intrigued and want it to give this trend a shot. So I did what I do best, wear them my way. I never conform, nor should you, to what styles are in. I just take what I want from trends and make them my own. I’m not big on hoodies, and I wasn’t going to start now. So I grab the two items I wear the most this time of the year, a T-shirt and a blazer. And just like that, I put together an outfit that’s trendy but true to my style.
Whenever you’re trying something that’s out of your comfort zone, the key to pull it off and to feel comfortable in it is to make it your own. Style it the way YOU would wear it and not the way it’s trending. Don’t follow fashion blindly and lose your sense of self in the process. At the end of the day, your style is a reflection of you, so make it so!
