How Can An Everyday Girl Afford Luxury Goods?

In recent years, luxury goods have become more and more mainstream. We’ve been seeing a lot more everyday girls, wearing designer bags, shoes and bags down the street like it’s just another Tuesday. Long gone the days where a designer bag was tucked away only to be used for special occasions. Nowadays, people in coffee shops carry their Gucci, YSL, even Chanel bags with them. How can those people afford such luxuries? But better in effect how can you?

Well, I have a few tips to help you snag that bag you’ve always wanted!

Buying a brand new bag from a store is definitely an experience by itself, but you can save so much on second-hand luxury goods. If you’ve been watching my Youtube channel for a while, you know I’m a big fan of The Real Real. I have been their customer for years now. I’ve both consigned and purchased from them, and always left a happy customer. My latest buys, where a brand new Alienina bag with tags, and my beloved JW Anderson Pierce bag in an excellent condition! Buying second-hand doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality. You can find some gems on pre-loved websites if you’re patient and take the time to look for them. Just make sure you do your research and use a trusted website, such as The Real Real, Vestiaire Collective and Shopbob.

Hold on that designer purchase and wait for the sale! A lot of people think luxury brands don’t go on sale but they do! A lot of websites (such as Net a Porter, Farfetch… etc) and stores (like Saks Fifth Ave, Bloomingdales… etc.) have sales on designer brands, especially on Black Friday. I actually snagged my beloved Prada bag from Saks Fifth Ave for 40% off! So sign up to their newsletters and keep an eye out for sales.

Other sites such as Gilt.com and Century 21 have discounted luxury goods year long. You can find some great gems on these sites for a good discount. From Christian Louboutin to Tom Ford even YSL, they carry all the big brands. Why spend full price when you can save a couple hundred dollars or more?

Hit up your local consignment store. You might be surprised at what you can find sometimes at your local consignment store, especially if you live in a big city. If you live near a consignment store, pass by every couple of weeks or once a week just to stay on top of what’s new.

Find a luxury outlet store near you. Some big brands like Gucci and Burberry have outlet stores in luxury outlet malls. So pass by check out their inventory and see if they have what you have your eyes on. Usually, they don’t carry the latest season’s collection but you can still find a great selection. The stock usually sells out fast as it’s an outlet store, so again try to take a trip a few times a year to stay on top of what’s new!

Keep an eye out on sample sales, that’s when you’re going to score big, Although mid-level luxury brands do sample sales more often than higher end brands, you still can find a Chanel sample sale (especially if you’re in Europe). Thanks to the big influence of social media you can stay on top of sample sales, by following the brand’s social media accounts. Nowadays some brands also will host a sample sale online, but be ready to set your alarm clock, refresh your tabs and get a small panic attack. I actually snagged two Mansur Gavriel bags a couple of months ago at their online sample sale for fraction of the original price.

I really hope you found this post helpful. I always tell people to take their time and do some research before they buy luxury goods. And always make sure you can afford it, and that you’re not compromising your lifestyle just to be able to have a designer piece… You’re smarter than that!
