The New YSL Thee Shock Mascara

When it comes to makeup, the one product I can’t live without is mascara. I usually prefer higher end mascaras, because I find they overperform those from the drugstore. So you can imagine how excited I was to have received the new YSL The Shock mascara to try.

Just like any other YSL beauty product, the packaging is stunning. Robust yet classy, it has to be one of the better-looking mascaras in my collection. With an hourglass-like brush, it claims to give you maximum volume without clumping your lashes.

Unfortunately, I have to refute that claim. Although the mascara does add volume, one coat is definitely not enough. I found myself repeatedly going over my lashes several times to create the desired volume. Even though, I wouldn’t consider it a volumizing mascara per se.

As for the no clumping claim, that is also unfortunately not true. It’s definitely not the clumpiest mascara out there, but if you’re like me and like defined lashes, you won’t be fully satisfied. I found that some of my lashes tended to stick together and clump. I’m not saying it will give you clumpy spidery lashes, but it surely won’t give you defined lashes either.

For a $29 mascara, I was honestly expecting much more from the YSL The Shock mascara. There’s nothing shocking at all about it. Instead, it should be called YSL The Meh mascara…

I love your lipstick shade. Honestly I have never tried a higher end Mascara, but I don’t thinks I will try this.

Annoying that it didn’t live up to its claims, but always great with a honest review! I’m so specific with my lashes too, and finding a great mascara is kind of a never ending search!

    Have a lovely weekend! Xx

I’ve only spent more on mascara once, but I’m not an expert, so I couldn’t tell a difference. I do like using a primer under it though. For some reason, that seems to work well for me!
Thanks for the honest review, Tamara!! It’s so refreshing!

I too cannot do without mascara, it is like the quest for the holy grail for me to find the most perfect brand. I have yet to do so. I love this honest review. Probably won’t be checking it out. I will however checkout your Kat Von D lip color, it’s gorgeous!

Thanks for a thorough and honest review. Sorry to hear that it’s clumpy! That’s my number one pet peeve in mascaras. I’ve been using Too Faced “Better Than Sex” mascara for a year now and I love it. That’s a great one if you need a recommendation.

YSL are my favourite mascaras and was looking forward to reading the review. Shame it wasn’t as you expected. I sometimes find that the YSL ones are clumpy when you first open them then after a few weeks seem to change as they get a little thicker if that makes sense.
