Unless you’ve been living under a gigantic rock, you’ve definitely heard of Glossier. This minimalist makeup brand that has been taking the world by storm, has definitely created a cult following. People can’t seem to get enough of it, especially millennials, and they’re all “obsessed”. But is it worth it?
The whole Glossier approach to makeup is less is more. The brand prides itself on offering the right tools for the no-makeup makeup look, very model like inspired. When browsing the Glossier website, you’ll see all of that reflected in their beautiful imagery.
Shopping online on Glossier.com is a really pleasurable experience. The website is easy to navigate and everything is clear and easy. All their products are swatched on different skin colors which is great. You get free shipping on orders above $30 in the US and above in $40 Canada. Score: ★★★★★
Shipping & Packaging
Standard shipping is relatively fast. You won’t be waiting for weeks for your order to arrive. Once your order is dispatched you will receive a shipping confirmation with a tracking number, so you know when to expect your package. My average shipping time has been 5days so far… For free shipping, it’s pretty good in my opinion.
As for packaging, your order will arrive in a cardboard box, with a pink interior that can be flipped inside out and reused. The products come in a very cool millennial clear pink pouch that you can reuse. The packaging is sturdy and safe. Never have I got a product damaged by shipping. Score: ★★★★★
When it comes to the actual products, that’s where things become a little more of a personal preference. As I said before, if you’re not a fan of minimal makeup, you’ll absolutely hate almost everything Glossier has to offer. But, if you are a fan of that approach, there are a few products that I think are worth it, the products that I don’t think are worth it and the meh average products.
The Cloud Paints/ If there’s only one thing you need to pick up from this brand, I say it’s their Cloud Paints. These liquid blushes that come in a paint-like tube are absolutely amazing! With no doubt, they are my favorite thing from Glossier. With the smallest pea size amount, you get a naturally beautiful flush to your cheeks. They are so easy to apply and last a decent time on the skin. You can mix two or more shades together to create your perfect color, which is nice. Swatched, some may look a little intimidating at first but once you blend them in, they become one with your skin and add just the right amount of color to your face. Dusk is my favorite shade so far because it’s somewhere between a blush and a bronzer. The perfect natural everyday terracotta shade. Score:★★★★★
Haloscope/ My second favorite thing is the Haloscope in the shade Quartz. This is not your glittery glitzy highlighter. It’s more of a dewy, fresh, young looking skin type of highlighter. It makes your skin look extremely hydrated and healthy. For an everyday look, it’s the perfect highlighter out there. Score:★★★★★
Lidstar/ This liquid eyeshadow is one of their newest releases. As I have only swatched and used the Lidstar in the shade Cub, I’m keeping my review focused on this one shade. Cub is a gorgeous sheeny terracotta color. It just adds the right amount of warmth and color to your lids, without overwhelming them. It can easily go unnoticed if you’re medium to darker skin tone, but I like that. Again, I love wearing it on my no makeup makeup days just to bring life to my eyes and emphasize them in a subtle way. It really makes hazel & brown eyes pop. I love that it comes with a doe foot applicator that makes it easy to apply. I personally like to blend it with my fingers to make it look even more natural. Score:★★★★☆
Perfecting Skin Tint/ As someone who has acne prone skin with some scaring the Perfecting Skin Tint was a big miss for me. This liquid tint is so sheer that it offers almost no coverage and barely any color evening. Unless you have perfect skin, you won’t like this product. Yet again, if you have perfect skin, why do you even need it? Also, the shade range is bad. Very, very bad. With only 5 shades to choose from, it’s extremely hard to find your perfect match. After just a few uses, I gave up on it, especially because of the bad shade match. When I was packing away my makeup for the big move, I made the decision to give away my Perfecting Skin Tint, as I knew I wasn’t going to ever use it again. Score:★☆☆☆☆
Stretch Concealer/ Just like the Perfecting Skin Tint, the Stretch Concealer‘s shade range is bad. Again only 5 shades to choose from, and again I couldn’t find a perfect match. It’s extremely light coverage, it won’t hide your dark circles or blemishes, but it offers a slightly higher than the Perfecting Skin Tint. Even for every day, it didn’t really cut it for me. Also, I made the decision to leave it behind when we moved, as I wasn’t reaching it for it at all. Score:★★☆☆☆
Boy Brow/ I know, I know, this is a slightly controversial statement, as the Boy Brow is a cult favorite, but frankly, it is just MEH. Is it an OK brow product? Yes. A great one? No. It’s just good… enough. There’s nothing special about this brow gel in my opinion. It gives you a nice tint, but the wand actually picks up a lot of product that you need to spend 5 minutes wiping it off before applying it or your brows will be a hot mess! Also, I don’t find it holds my eyebrows in place as well as my other brow gels. Score:★★★☆☆
Generation G/ Like the Boy Brow, the Generation G lipsticks are nothing special. They have a sheer matte formula, that leaves a stain on the lips, which I like. My problem with these lipsticks is the smell. The first one I bought, it smelled like chemicals. After reaching out to the customer service, they replaced it for me for free and quickly. Unfortunately, after a few uses, the new lipstick also is starting to smell a little weird, not as potent as the first one, but they definitely have a weird smell to them, so keep that in mind. Other than that, there’s nothing much to say. They’re your average sheer matte lipstick… nothing mind-blowing here. Score:★★★☆☆
Milk Jelly Cleanser/ The Milk Jelly Cleanser is a face cleanser that claims to be able to remove makeup when used on dry skin and clean skin when used wet. As a makeup remover, this cleanser sucks honestly, unless you’re only wearing the Perfecting Skin Tint… As a face cleanser, in general, it’s ok. The first con for me is the smell. It smells strongly of roses, which is a little overwhelming. Secondly, it’s clear and doesn’t foam. So I’m never sure if I’m cleaning my skin well, so I keep adding more and more product fearing I haven’t used the right amount. I end up using a lot more product than I would usually with another cleanser. I never get that feeling of “very clean” skin when using it, so again I end up reaching for my old trustworthy cleanser instead. Score:★★★☆☆
So in conclusion, is Glossier worth the hype? Well, for me some products definitely up there, while others not so much. At the end of the day, we have to keep in mind that makeup is something very personal. Nothing is universal and products perform differently on different people. Also, each one of us has our own preferences and style and what works for me may not work for you.
Keeping all of that in mind, if you love minimal makeup, I think Glossier is a good brand for you to discover if you haven’t yet. I’m definitely interested to see what the future holds for this brand and all their future launches. I’m secretly hoping for a mascara soon!
Let me know if you tried any of the Glossier products and what were your hits and misses!
