If you’ve been following me on Youtube for a while, then you know that in the last few months, I’ve made the decisions to be a more conscious consumer. I reduced the amounts of hauls I used to upload on my channel and cut back on my shopping habits. I bought less but better quality and opted for long term investment pieces instead of a spur of the moment trends.
Going into the new year and the new decade, I definitely want to continue with this ethos of shopping and consuming, that’s why I decided that January 2020 will be a “No-Buy” month.
Just like the name suggests, a no-buy month is a month where I don’t make any fashion nor beauty related purchase (unless it’s something I absolutely need and can’t live without, for example if I lost my winter gloves and need to replace them…). Looking at my closet the other day, I came to realize that I own an overwhelming amount of clothing more than I realistically need. I always attributed my shopping habits to being a blogger and needing to stay on top of trends. But, I do now realize that my position also comes with the duty to promote healthy shopping habits and fight against over-consumerism.
So for the month of January, I will refrain from shopping and instead will be styling pieces I already own. I urge you to follow me on this challenge because I’m sure that you too own more than enough clothes and definitely don’t “need” any new items. I believe January and February are the perfect months for a no-buy challenge as most of the biggest sales are gone and because we’re already in the middle of the winter season. Chances are you already have your winter wardrobe covered by now.
I will be documenting my no-buy month on Instagram and if you do too, use the hashtag #LOMnobuy so we can promote healthier shopping habits this year!
