Just like my wardrobe, my makeup also witnesses a switch when the weather starts to get warmer. Although I’m not really a heavy makeup wearer in general, in spring/summer, I tend to scale back my makeup routine even further. What I look for in my summer makeup products is the following: quick to apply, lightweight and natural-looking.
For foundation, I love the MAC Cosmetics Face & Body foundation. It offers a light buildable coverage that evens out your skin tone, without masking your face with a thick layer of product. I love how it doesn’t hide my blemishes, especially my summer freckles. I personally enjoy applying it with my hands, to get an even more natural result. The liquid formula and squeezy bottle make it extremely user friendly and great for a speedy application. The skin-like finish, with a slight glow, that this foundation gives makes it perfect for a daily basis.
As for concealer, lately I’ve been enjoying wearing the ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic concealer. Just like the MAC foundation, this concealer has a light buildable coverage and a healthy glow. Perfect for people with dry under eyes, like myself. Because of the doe-foot applicator, this concealer is fuss and mess-free. I also love that hyaluronic acid is an active ingredient in this product, giving it the extra
Continuing with the complexion, on most summery days, I tend to skip bronzer all together. I prefer a natural sun-kissed look that I get from the sun and from my fake tan this time of the year. One product I won’t skip though is a liquid highlighter. The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter is the perfect subtle yet radiant highlighter that makes you look like you’re glowing from within. I focus it on the top of my cheeks and work it in with my fingers.
As for blush, I’m still loyal to my Cloud Paint liquid blushes from Glossier. Those babies have been a favorite of mine for quite a few years now. I love how versatile they are; I can use them on my lips and eyes as well as my cheeks, for a monochromatic look. My favorite shades are Beam and Dusk. As Dusk is a taupe almost bronzing shade I focus it on the outer part of my cheeks and pop Beam on the apple of my cheeks, for a sun-kissed flush of color.
In the summer, I really can’t bother much with eyeshadows so I tend to keep my eyes quite bare except for mascara. The Roller Lash mascara from Benefit is still a favorite of mine, years later, for daily looks. If I’m going for a no-makeup makeup then I will use my Glossier Lash Slick mascara for a “your lashes but better” effect.
To finish off the look, when the weather is warm, I love using creamy balmy lipsticks. I stay away from drying matte lipsticks and opt for something more hydrating instead. Lately, I’ve been enjoying the Nars Afterglow lip balms. They come in different shades and they are perfect for a quick hydrating wash of color.
And that’s it for my everyday summer makeup. It really doesn’t take me much time to achieve this look, especially that I tend to blend everything in with my fingers which not only gives a more natural effect but also saves time.
Let me know if you change your makeup routine now that the weather is warmer. Also, I’d love to know you’re warm-weather makeup hero products.
